Not for the first time has a disused bingo hall been repurposed illegally as a cannabis farm.

An old bingo hall in Rhyl was raided by the police after eyewitnesses reported to the police of seeing a group of men force their way into the site late on December 23rd. The mystery men were then seen fleeing the scene a short while later with “stuffed bags”.

When police arrived at the scene, a large-scale cannabis cultivation factory, with an estimated street value of over £1.5 million was found inside the East Parade premises.

A police statement said:

“On 23rd December 2021 at approximately 6pm, North Wales Police received a report of a number of males entering the disused Bingo Hall on East Parade in Rhyl.

“It was reported that unknown males had forced their way into the property by smashing the glass at the front before leaving the property carrying bags.”

“No one has been harmed during the incident, but we urge anyone with any information to contact us by calling 101 or using our LiveChat facility quoting reference 21000885519.”

Closed Bingo Halls Loved By Cannabis Growers

The latest cannabis bust follows a growing trend over the last couple of years of abandoned bingo halls being repurposed illegally by cannabis growers.

In June 2019, Northampton Police seized more than 2000 cannabis plants valued at nearly £3million from a former Gala Bingo Hall in Kettering.

Then, around the same time last year, police discovered a drugs stash worth up to £1million in an old abandoned bingo hall in Inverclyde, Scotland.

Just a month later, at the start of 2021, yet another cannabis farm was discovered in an abandoned bingo hall. Neighbourhood officers from Hyndburn Police, Lancashire found a cannabis factory with nearly 500 plants at the old Empire Bingo Hall on Blackburn Road, Accrington.

The former Buzz Bingo in Rhyl was one of 26 Buzz Bingo clubs closed during the pandemic. It has been vacant since, much to the delight of cannabis growers.
