Today, Sunday, March 17th, marks the end of an era for Hanley in Stoke-on-Trent. After over a quarter of a century serving the local community, Rank Group PLC (LON: RNK) has decided to close the Mecca Bingo Hanley venue.
BingoDaily reported earlier this month that its surprise closure was only ‘in discussion'. However, staff at the popular bingo club have informed the local press that the venue is indeed to close its doors for good today.
Previously, a spokesperson from Mecca Bingo had said:
“A decision has not been finalised, and once it is, the team will be the first to be advised.”
Mecca Bingo has confirmed it's discussing the closure of its #Hanley site. The firm says the future of the club on Octagon Retail Park is under review and a decision will be made next month.

The fate of the 17 employees has not yet been confirmed officially, but this will now leave the nearest Mecca Bingo venues at Crewe and Burton.
Mecca Bingo has been a much-loved venue in Octagon Retail Park since the late 1990s, having been purchased from the council in 1995 in a reported £8 million deal.
