The patrons of Buzz Bingo in Hengrove Leisure Park in Bristol received some sad news this week after it was announced that the popular Bingo Hall will close its doors permanently this month.

In a statement published on the Buzz Bingo Hengrove Facebook page, the club said:

“It’s with a heavy heart we announce the closure of Buzz Bingo Bristol Hengrove on Sunday 28th January.
We’re really sad to bring you this news as we know this will be a difficult time for our community and our colleagues.
We’d like to thank you for all your support – we’re going to miss you SO much but this isn’t the end for our amazing community ❤️ Our friends at Buzz Bingo Bristol Fishponds and Weston-super-Mare would love to welcome you and we’re always playing together at buzzbingo.com
Please keep an eye out on here for any further updates. In the meantime, we’re here for you so please send us a message. We’d really appreciate hearing your happy memories from playing in our club”

It was reported in the local press in November, last year following the closure of the Cineworld complex in the same Leisure park, that developers had planning permission to demolish the cinema and the bingo hall to build 350 homes on the site and car park.

Sadness From the Local Community

The news of the closure on Sunday 28th January, although expected, was still greeted with considerable sadness in the Bristol community. “Sad times” lamented one regular, whilst another regular said “Such a shame”

Gary Hopkins, who is understood to be a former employee at the venue said:

“Thinking about the past and history of the club, I was part of the original team that opened the club, those days were great. Some truly great staff and management too during my time.
Customers were brilliant (mostly), loved chatting to so many of them, and I can certainly tell you a story or two about my many days there working, not working and just enjoying the whole atmosphere of the place.
Good luck to everyone there, never know I may pop over from where I live for a last goodbye to the old place.”

Meanwhile, Jason Ainsworth also understood to be a former employee at the club, posted on Facebook:

“I cannot believe this! I was Mainstage Caller on opening night! I seems like a lifetime ago, but I've got so many great memories of the place.”

At this stage, it is not known if the Buzz Bingo staff have or will be offered alternative employment at the Buzz Bingo Bristol Fishponds or Weston-super-Mare venues.
