For many, the double celebration of a wedding anniversary and a night out at Bongo's Bingo in Liverpool would be a source of joy. However for one couple celebrating their wedding anniversary at the popular Camp and Furnace venue in September 2019, the night ended in assault.

Stephen Duke, 37 of Countess Park in West Derby who has seven previous convictions was shown on CCTV footage to have grabbed his wife by her throat and shove her face first into a fence.

The incident came about after that Stephen's wife Sarah was seen talking to an unknown man during the night when friends of her husband “pulled her away.”

Ms Duke suffered a broken nose, a cut lip as well as a grazed and bruised jawline. During the altercation, Ms Duke believeds that she may have lost consciousness as some events after the incident are unclear.

The case has been sent to the crown court for sentencing, with the Deputy District Judge Rhys Williams sent ruling that sentencing powers above that of a Magistrates' Court may be required.

Stephen Duke has been released on unconditional bail until he is next set to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on September 23rd where he will receive his sentence.
