Buzz, the UK's largest retail bingo operator, closed 26 of its clubs last year in response to the pandemic lockdowns. Buzz Bingo Carlisle, one of the 26, was saved from the chop, but what happened to the other 25 closed bingo halls?
The last week has seen plans revealed for some of those Buzz Bingo halls.
Buzz Bingo Fishponds Bristol
A planning application has been submitted to Bristol City Council on behalf of Buzz Bingo's owners which, if approved, would see the site used for retail purposes. The planning application states: “The size of unit would ideally lend itself to a further food store or a DIY unit.”
Buzz Bingo Park Way, Great Park
Plans have been submitted to Birmingham City Council for permission to change the use of the Buzz Bingo in Rubery into a gymnasium. Buzz Bingo on Park Way, Great Park could soon be taken over by the Revolution Gymnastics Club who are based in Selly Oak, Birmingham.

The management at Buzz Bingo in Great Park has announced that despite the planning application being received to change the popular bingo venue into a gymnastics centre, the company has managed to negotiate a new lease with the property owners, saying:
“WE ARE NOT MOVING, WE ARE STAYING PUT!”

Buzz Bingo Nottingham
The once-popular Gala Bingo Hall in St Ann's Nottingham, which closed in 2019, has received planning permission to convert the site into a seven-story student accommodation block. The proposed development will provide 356 bedrooms across a mix of 54 studios and 121 cluster flats. Amenities will include a laundry, gym, and cinema room on the ground floor.
Buzz Bingo Aylesbury
The Gala-turned-Buzz Bingo building, in Aylesbury High Street, is under review by Buckinghamshire Council, in hopes it could help to revive the local economy. The bingo hall which was also previously a cinema could be turned into an “arts music centre”.
At least two investors are known to be interested in the “iconic” council-owned building, with both believed to be preparing proposals. The centrally located site was originally a Pavilion Cinema and then a Granada in 1946 before it closed in 1972. It then became a Granada bingo hall, before changing its name to Gala Bingo in 1991.
BingoDaily reached out to Buzz Bingo who exclusively told us:
“As part of the CVA process, there can often be interest on site locations from other parties. In this case, Great Park and Fishpond are ones we’re discussing further. No decisions have been made but we are 100% committed to maintaining our clubs and normality in our communities, where we can, to continue to support our loyal customers.”
