They say bad things happen in threes. And this week's bingo news is dominated by the announcements of the closures of three Mecca Bingo venues.

Just days after Mecca Bingo Rochdale closed its doors for good, Bingo Daily reported on the “shock” announcement of the news that Mecca Bingo Halifax will close permanently in August.

Now, just hours later, there is a further disappointment as there is news of two more Mecca Bingo clubs closing their doors permanently.

Mecca Bingo Bridgwater to Close

After nearly 50 years, Mecca Bingo Bridgwater is to close. In an official statement, the UK bingo company celebrating its  60th year this year, said:

“We’re very sad to confirm that Mecca Bridgwater will be closing. We want to say a huge thank you to every single one of our incredible customers for their loyalty and support for the last 48 years.

“Please bear with us while we all adjust to the news, but feel free to pop in and have a chat. We’ll keep you updated here on what our plans are for the coming weeks and when we have a confirmed closing date in August.”

Locals took to social media to express their shock, anger, and disappointment at the closure of the once-popular bingo club.

Mecca Bingo Plymouth Next on the Chopping Block?

According to reports in local media, Mecca Bingo Plymouth is facing a surprise permanent closure this summer too.

John Dyson, Operations Director of Mecca Bingo has confirmed discussions over shutting the bingo hall are taking place. It is understood that the 18 members of staff at the Mecca Bingo Plymouth venue have been told that they will be made redundant.

Dyson said:

“We are currently in discussions with our team about the proposed closure of Mecca in Devonport next month. Mecca Devonport has been a part of the local community for many years, and at this stage, we want to say a huge thank you to every single one of our incredible customers who continue to visit the club.”

Once again, locals took to social media to vent their surprise and anger at the decision to close the popular bingo hall at the heart of the Plymouth community.
