The team here at BingoDaily love to cover the opening of the new bingo halls. Sadly, we also have to cover the closing of bingo halls too.
Making the bingo news this week was the closure of three branches of Beach Bingo halls in North Shields, Jarrow and South Shields.
Citing “difficult trading conditions” the three bingo venues closed their doors to the public on September 30th with the loss of 42 jobs.
Rob Garrard, the owner of the three bingo branches said that efforts had been made to keep the three branches of Beach Bingo open in difficult circumstances. However, the three clubs were forced to close and Mr Garrard himself has been declared bankrupt.
Mr Garrard said:
“I'm devastated. I've been doing this for 20 years.
“We have done our best to keep going in quite difficult trading circumstances.
“Unfortunately we are unable to keep going, to the extent I'm personally bankrupt.
“My priorities at the moment are making sure that the staff get as much help as possible.
“We have been making efforts to try and keep it going for a long time.”
The announcements made on Facebook garnered a lot of sympathy and sadness at the closing.
