source: pixabay.com Fears for the worst for Mecca Bingo Andover were not misplaced as the Hampshire club has been confirmed as closing this month.
Earlier in July, Bingo Daily reported on the news that Mecca Bingo, celebrating its 60th Anniversary year, was “in discussion” over the future of the popular bingo club. The news came amidst a spate of Mecca Bingo closure announcements, which included the surprise announcement that Mecca Bingo Halifax will close permanently in August.
The venue that Mecca Bingo has occupied since the 1990s was sold by Mecca owners the Rank Group in September 2021. Following a consultation, it has been confirmed that Mecca Bingo Andover will close for good on August 14th.
John Dyson, operations director at Mecca Bingo, said: “Mecca Andover has been part of the local community for many years, and at this stage we want to say a huge thank you to every single one of our incredible customers who continue to visit the club.”
It is not known at this stage whether the staff will be relocated or will lose their jobs.
Mecca Bridgwater to Close Also on August 14th
An August the 14th date has also been set for Mecca Bingo Bridgwater's last game. Having announced that the bingo club “will close”, Mecca Bingo has confirmed that August 14th will see the final game of bingo played at the club after nearly half a century.
In a Facebook post, a spokesperson for Mecca Bingo confirmed the closure, saying:
“We can confirm that our official last day will be Sunday, August 14.
“It is still a very sad and difficult time, but the overwhelming support from you guys has been very special and we are super thankful.
“We still have some great offers going on before we close and, of course, we are working on plans for our last week.
“If you have any vouchers, then please aim to spend them before we close.”
August 14th will see a number of Mecca Bingo venues shutting their doors permanently including Andover, Gloucester, Sittingbourne, Halifax, and Devonport.
