source: Google Today (Saturday) sees the Mecca Bingo Wakefield reopen after being closed for a brief hiatus following a devastating fire at the nearby Speedibake factory exactly two weeks ago.
Eight fire engines and 140 firefighters attended the blaze, which started at Speedibake bakery, on Colinsway, Wakefield on Saturday 1st February. Local residents were evacuated and nearby businesses were forced to close, including the Mecca Bingo in Westgate Retail and Leisure Park (albeit a full week after). The bingo venue is located just a few feet from the site of the fire which burned for a full 24 hours. The plumes of black smoke could be seen for miles, although firefighters confirmed there was no asbestos in the burning factory building.
At the time Mecca Bingo said in a Facebook post:
“We will be attempting to test all our systems tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday 4th February) to ensure we are in a position to reopen the club as soon as possible.
“We haven't taken the decision to remain closed lightly, but we want to ensure our internal and external environment is both safe and fully functional before we resume operations.
“Thank you for your patience and we're doing our best to get back to giving you the best bingo experience in town.”

To mark the reopening, Mecca Bingo Wakefield is inviting their customers to join them for a free game of bingo, a complimentary glass of fizz, and if that wasn't enough, there is also a complimentary buffet.
The General Manager of Mecca Bingo Wakefield, Mel Kassim said of today's event:
“We were very upset to have to close the doors to our fantastic customers, but we felt safety needed to be our main priority.
“Thankfully, the emergency services did an amazing job on the day and we’re very excited to be welcoming our customers back to Mecca Bingo Wakefield.
“We can’t wait to get the festivities started with some complimentary food and drinks and, of course, a free game of bingo.
“It’s our way of saying thank you to our very loyal and understanding customers.”
Dabbers can claim their free bubble, bingo and buffet from either 12 pm or 6 pm, today (Saturday 15th February).
