Despite an apparent return to bingo halls by the UK public, it seems that for one longstanding and popular bingo hall in Telford, Shropshire, the numbers did not quite add up.

The Mecca Bingo Telford, 29 years based at Southwater Square, has confirmed that will close its doors from Monday, February 7th.

The announcement on the club's Facebook post confirmed the closure.

According to reports, a statement from the Mecca club said: “We are very sad to confirm that the club will be closed from Monday, February 7, and we want to say a huge thank you to every single one of our incredible customers for their loyalty and support – we will miss you very much.

“We are working on plans to make the next three weeks memorable and celebrate the last 29 years we have been here in Telford, for you as well as the team.

“Please bear with us while we all adjust to the news, but feel free to pop in and have a chat, we will keep you updated here on what our plans are for the next three weeks.”

The closure by Mecca Bingo of the Telford venue means that as of February 7th there will be no Mecca Bingo clubs remaining in Shropshire. Bingo players in nearby Shrewsbury have a Buzz Bingo club open.

Although there are no further announcements of bingo hall closures from either Mecca Bingo, the 2nd largest retail bingo company or Buzz Bingo, the largest retail bingo operator in the UK, it will be interesting to see if the cold winter weather adds a bit too much financial pressure on some UK bingo clubs.
