Bingo has been at the heart of communities up and down the country for decades. As well as the social element, the UK bingo community is famed for its charitable activities.

Throughout the lockdown, charity and helping those less fortunate became a focal point for bingo clubs forced to close due to the pandemic. Games of street bingo, car park bingo, and balcony bingo raised untold sums for charities. The good news is, that fine tradition is still continuing. A week-long fundraiser at the Mecca Bingo Hartlepool raised an impressive £700 for Hartlepool’s RNLI.

The week of fundraising ended on Saturday, August 14 with Hartlepool RNLI volunteer crew member Jane Mandeville reading out the numbers at the Mecca Bingo venue in Warrior Park. Hartlepool.

All proceeds are going to Hartlepool’s RNLI to help provide kits and training for volunteers.

Hartlepool RNLI volunteer and bingo caller for the night, Jane, said:

“I’d rather have been at sea on a dark and stormy night but I soon calmed down and got on with it and thoroughly enjoyed the event.”

Hartlepool RNLI lifeboat Operations Manager Chris Hornsey also said:

“Most importantly the Mecca staff and club members have done an amazing job raising this money for the charity and we can't thank them enough. Their donation will help provide training and the best kit available for our volunteers.”
