. BingoDaily has learned that another bingo club will close next month.

Within 24 hours of Mecca confirming the closure of the Mecca Bingo Hull Cecil venue, and days after the Mecca Bingo Chester branch was confirmed as closing, the bingo and slots operator has confirmed another Northern bingo venue will close its doors for good on February 26th.

Mecca Bingo Doncaster has been at the heart of the Doncaster community for more than four decades. It is now the latest in a growing list of established bingo halls set for the chop.

The Rank Group (LON: RNK) has not officially confirmed the closure. However, an employee of the Mecca Bingo Doncaster branch posted on Social Media, appearing to confirm the closure. He said on Facebook:

“Well the time is right to let family and friends know.

“Unfortunately Mecca Doncaster is closing its doors for good on Sunday evening 26 February after 40 plus years.

“It will be sadly missed after 19 years of working full time there. But let’s see what’s round the corner. We would also like to invite past members of staff to our final evening.”

More Mecca Bingos in the North to Close?

With the loss of  Mecca Bingo Chester, Mecca Bingo Hull Cecil, and now Mecca Bingo Doncaster, a dark shadow is cast over the futures of the Mecca Bingo Dewsbury and the Mecca Bingo Leeds branches.

Earlier, Mecca Bingo Operations Manager John Dyson told Cheshire Live:

“Regrettably, proposals to close our Chester and Hull clubs are being discussed. We are currently in consultation with our team and will be making an announcement once those conversations are complete.”

There are also rumblings that further Mecca Bingo branches will be closed next month. The Hayes and Hillingdon branch in greater West London is apparently earmarked for closure.

The Rank Group (LON: RNK) suffered a substantial dip in profits in 2022. The UK casino and bingo operator closed a number of Mecca Bingo venues during the pandemic, which ravished the hospitality industry and saw UK bingo halls closed or restricted for over a year. The cost of living crisis is blamed for the current round of closures.
