Just 24 hours after we reported the sad closure of Mecca Bingo York, it seems another Mecca Bingo has bitten the dust.

This time it is the turn of the Mecca Bingo Bedford to announce that it has closed its doors for good and will not reopen when bingo clubs are opening their doors again on May 17th.

In a statement provided by John Dyson, the operations director at Mecca Bingo, John said he was “very sad” to confirm the decision.

“Mecca Bedford has been a part of the local community for many years and we want to say a huge thank you to every single one of our incredible customers for their loyalty and support – we will miss you very much.”

“Mecca plays a very special part in the community and has done for 60 years, bringing people together in our clubs and online. We wish all of our colleagues and customers well for the future.”

Mecca Bingo has yet to confirm how many of the Mecca Bingo employees are to be made redundant. The purpose-built venue on London Road had a capacity nearing 1000 and is thought to be the latest victim of the coronavirus pandemic which has ravished the UK bingo scene. Last year, with most of the UK's bingo halls closed for as much as 10 out of the last 12 months, BingoDaily estimates as much as 20% of the UK's bingo halls were closed in 2020.

Now, into the fourth month of the year, with a number of closures already announced, we could see even more bingo halls close permanently this year.
