Just a few weeks after a regular at Buzz Bingo Morecambe hit the jackpot with a cool £50,000 win, the popular bingo club in Lancashire has been placed up for sale.

According to a report in the local newspaper, the popular bingo venue on the site of the historic Morecambe Tower, the 1.97-acre site that includes parking for 84 cars, has been put on the market for 1.7 million.

As advertised on the Right Move property website, the sale is handled by CBRE Ltd, London (Licensed Leisure & Hotel Property).

The purpose-built club, which was previously Gala Bingo before it rebranded in 2018, is situated in a prime location on Marine Road East at the northern end of Morecambe town centre.

FRI Lease to Buzz Group Ltd with an unexpired term of 15.25 years, meaning the lease expires on 18th December 2039. Currently, there is a current rent of £259,533.53 per annum.

There is an opportunity to extend the long leasehold, subject to agreeing terms with the freeholder.

A Building with a Rich History

The building itself has a rich history. A former bowling alley and a cinema (one of eight in Morecambe), the site that the building is located on was once the Morecambe Tower, built in 1899 to rival the tower in nearby Blackpool.

Construction started in May 1899, but the company building it ran out of money and stopped work in May 1899. The Morecambe Tower and Estates Company bought the tower in 1909 and completed some of the buildings, but it was never finished to its planned height.

The tower opened to the public in 1912. However, the outbreak of World War One provided steel for munitions.

The remaining buildings were sold, and the tower closed in 1959.

The building below the tower was modernised and renamed the Gaumont in 1945. However, it was closed in 1959 and also demolished.

Continuing to Serve

A Buzz Bingo spokesperson told BingoDaily:

“We’re pleased to continue serving the Morecambe community and welcoming our valued bingo customers through our doors. With our lease secured until 2039, we’re committed to providing a vibrant and friendly space for everyone to enjoy.”
