A bingo player in Dagenham walked away with a £50,000 prize over the bank holiday weekend, winning the top jackpot during a game at the Mecca Bingo venue on Saturday, May 3.
The winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, claimed the life-changing prize while playing the National Bingo Game at the Dagenham Leisure Park-based club. The jackpot is awarded when a full house is achieved within the first 16 numbers called—a rare outcome that results in one of the game’s highest payouts.
The game, which took place during a busy evening session, was attended by around 300 players.
“There was a moment of complete silence when the win was claimed,” said Donna Thompson, the bingo caller on the night. “Once I confirmed the prize, the reaction was immediate—cheers, clapping, and lots of excitement from the crowd.”
Despite the sizable jackpot, the winner reportedly remained calm and continued playing throughout the evening, even winning additional smaller prizes later that night.
The £50,000 prize is one of the top-tier jackpots offered by the National Bingo Game, a widely played and much-loved linked game across UK bingo clubs. While such wins are relatively rare, they are not unheard of, and this latest payout contributes to the continued appeal of the game among regular players.
Mecca Bingo Dagenham, located on the Dagenham Leisure Park, has operated since 1996. It has been a longstanding fixture in the local entertainment scene, offering a mix of traditional and electronic bingo and slots games.
The club’s deputy manager, Donna Thompson, previously a customer at the venue before joining its staff three years ago, described the win as a career highlight. “It was a moment I won’t forget,” she said.
